The Okta Touch on Geekzone

By Mauricio Freitas, in , posted: 12-Nov-2007 11:03

I got an Okta Touch during the Okta Mobile launch, a week before it hit the retail stores.

During the Geekzone Moderators' Meeting the following weekend I was showing the Okta Touch around (of couse).

Just to show how impressed the moderators were, four out of seven Geekzone moderators now have an Okta Touch - replacing even some brand new PDAs.

A fifth Geekzone Moderator is complaining, but he's almost moving his mobile from Vodafone to Telecom just to get this device.

I can say this device was a big hit in some technical circles...

Review coming soon on Geekzone.

Hmmm... who's gonna pay for my $799 price tag? lol... I may be checking with TCL To see what deal they may able to offer me with Okta Touch on their brand-spanking-new mobile service...

Do I count even though i'm not a "mod"?

why shift from vodafone?

I have an HTC Touch on vodafone.

Was alot cheaper than $799 too

Comment by bradstewart, on 12-Nov-2007 22:15

Because the GSM Touch sucks... 200Mhz processor and a crap screen

personally i cant stand telecom handsets.... but i cant stand vodafones system, billing system or their service. the guy from fronde was right, the service years ago were highly trained helpdesk staff and they were awesome, nwoadays you get some idiot who hangs up on you by mistake when they "put you thru to the right department"....

Hi
I have had an Okta Touch for about a week and think it has some really great features, but am concerned about the quality of photo it takes. They seem blurry, Has anyone else noticed this?

Comment by Gareth, on 29-Apr-2008 17:14

Has anyone managed to sync the OKTA Touch successfully to Lotus Notes? If so how did you go about doing it?

Comment by Kayte, on 31-May-2008 16:27

I've had a Touch on the Telecom network since Novemeber last year, 7 months, and still love it!
I am just wondering where you can get new games to download to it? Solitaire is great but.....

I have had now 3 Okta Touch phones. Each time it goes back I get given a new one and I am without the phone for 2 weeks at a time. So for 4 months I have not had the Okta touch for 6 weeks.
While the Touch is a nice phone it is not reliable at receiving calls. Today I am going to try the HTC titan and see if it will be any better.

Comment by Stu Clark, on 11-Oct-2008 11:06

I have been seduced by the features of the touch but am pulling my hair out with its unrealibility in recieivng calls. Seems to be overnight and when in sleep mode it fails to annunciate calls the enxt day until you tell its brains to reset, (which is a bit useless if the first call of the day is to wake you up !!) I am now on my 3rd phone from Orb (telecom shop) who have acknowldeged a ""cluster fault"" .......its a cluster something alright ! Being a grassy knoll enthusiast from way can't I can't help thinking these guys have just recieved a bad batch of phones at discount prices and are trying to palm them off (forgive the pun) on punters who don't know any better.

Can anyone suggst a phone with similar features that actually works as a phone ?

Stu

Hi guys
Got a okta touch and have managed to waste many hours finding my way round its many cool features, only thing driving me nuts is receiving other peoples picture messages, with such a fully capable phone, it seems strange not to have this function, is it there or can i not see wot people have sent me, just get a txt with a blurb to go to xtra web site, with codes etc, but once there can't find where else to go? Help Pleeeease

Lisa, this is how it works with the current Telecom network. This will change with the new network coming up in June/July this year.

Hi, me again, thanks for the quick reply in regards to the pics, now looking for additional software which I can download and add to my phone, mostly games and ringtones? checked out geekzone store but no Okta brand available, which do I need to choose to find compatible software and also telecom hasn't got any more ringtones for this device either, any idea how I get my sticky little fingers on these?

Comment by StuMc, on 19-Jul-2010 21:29

Does anyone know how I can download my text message threads from my OKTA Touch to my PC? - I need to print some threads.
Texts don't seem to be visible running Windows Mobile Device Centre 6.1's File Management function.
