Mobile Trade Me live now
The mobile version provides users with the expected features, including watchlist, listed items, sold items.
You can view details for listings, including description, photos, the Q&A section - and you can place your bid right there too.
Just a couple of errors with the usual "We have been notified of this error" message appearing when you click the Home link though. Workload too much?
Now I can see mobile Internet taking off in New Zealand...
The next question is to the mobile operators: where is the really affordable mobile data plan for the rest of us?

Trade Me had some brief congestion issues with the site around the time you posted this than caused the odd 500 error (The main site too). Was only a couple of minutes but that is likley what you were seeing.

Yay, just like 2003 again!
Trademe used to have a simple WAP1 portal back then which they suddenly closed-off without warning.
Finally I don't have to watch Trademe bring Opera mobile to a cr.a.w..l. and can just use the PIE on the device.
A great move from them and will be well recieved.

the lack of SSL is troublesome - sure voda and tcom have a reasonably secure path to the trademe site, but folks also use wifi from all over the place with their mobile gadgets to reach trademe.
They really ought to be SSLing it by default. If the device doesn't support SSL only then provide a plain http login. Check out mobile facebook logins for an example.

I've just had a quick play around. It's pretty good. The site loads really fast and it does what it says on the box: a mobile version of the main site.
The only nit I'd pick is that there aren't any categories in the search results and on the auction pages. I did a search for "Star Trek". Got 601 items, 5 at a time. As far as I can tell there's no way to discern which results are dvds, books, games, etc. I had to click thru to the result (titled "STAR TREK", then click the description link to find out what the item actually was.
I guess the mobile site is currently optimized for people to quickly check the status of their auctions, rather than browsing & bidding.
