Vodafone and Digital Europe
For example 83% of European households have a mobile handsets, but only 56% access the Internet regularly. Also 33% of European citizens have no Internet access (which I assume refers to landline Internet connections).
So what's the solution? "[Vodafone] have the potential to deliver the digital revolution to 500 million European citizens".
The interesting thing here is that Europe is probably the second biggest battleground (after China and India) in the mobile competition. Vodafone is up against O2, T-Mobile, Telefonica of Spain, all fighting for a share of those 500,000,000 customers.
What I would like to see though is what is Vodafone New Zealand's take on this aspect? Competition here is not as strong as in Europe. Does it make it less likely we could see such initiatives, or see price drops coming from the local operators?

In many European countries though they do not have the benefits of the (fixed services) infrastructure that we have here in NZ. There are quite a lot of communities that are 'off the grid'.Wireless technologies, primarily TV and Cellphones, brought them into the the twentieth century (communications wise) as the rest of us moved into the 21st.To me that says that a Digital Europe is not the lofty goal it may seem. And perhaps within the more regulated European environment it's a model which is both profitable and sustainable even within the context of competition. In NZ terms then will we see Telcos promoting totally wireless solutions into a home near you???VF have for sometime been selling Wireless Home phone solutions where you keep you local number and use normal fixed phone hardware over their mobile networks, and all mobile networks offer wireless data. But whilst Telecom is tied to the legacy infrastructure that it represents through Chorus, I can't see any great competition in a Digital (wireless) NZ apart from evolutionary increases in mobile BB speeds.

Correct, we're less likely to see this or price drops because of the usual "Small market" excuse.
